Located inside and also to the east of the Missouri State Capitol building, is one of the most unique types of “state parks” around. The Missouri State Museum beckons history enthusiasts and curious minds alike to embark on an intriguing journey through the Show-Me State’s vibrant past.

As the seat of Missouri’s cultural and natural history, this museum unveils a trove of exhibits, each telling a unique story that spans centuries.

This historic site along the Missouri River was a hub of activity, with steamboats traveling between St. Louis and Kansas City docking in front of the Lohman Building.

The nearby Union Hotel, home to the Elizabeth Rozier Gallery, continues to stand as a testament to the rich history, art, and culture that thrived in this vibrant era. The Rozier gallery was closed to the public on our last visit but I do feel they are working towards getting it opened up again.

Designated as the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in 1919, the History Hall within the Missouri State Museum now stands as a tribute to Missouri’s cultural history. Stretching 80 feet, the timeline guides visitors through thousands of years of Missouri history, revealing triumphs, tragedies, state symbols, and cultural references cleverly hidden in the illustrations.

Adjacent to the timeline, “Missouri Trailblazers” emerges as the largest exhibit in the museum, celebrating the people, places, and organizations that blazed trails in leadership, innovation, and creativity.

With artifacts and panels rotating every few months, there’s always something new to learn, ensuring that each visit brings fresh insights into Missouri’s trailblazing legacy.
