Fun Things To Do In Kansas City For Adults

Kansas City, a city known for its BBQ, vibrant culture, and flourishing culinary scene, offers an enormous amount of experiences for adults seeking a memorable escape. Here are five must-visit destinations that promise to elevate your Kansas City adventure, with the iconic J. Rieger & Co. Distillery leading the way.

1. J. Rieger & Co. Distillery: Spirited Sophistication

Kick off your adult escapade at J. Rieger & Co., a distillery with a legacy as rich as its spirits. We are embarrassed to say how long it took us to finally make it out to visit these great people. Our son was in town with his girlfriend, so we made sure we secured tickets for a tour. WOW! We are glad we did!

Once you get signed in at the front desk, they quickly whisk you away for an engaging tour to discover the art and science behind their craft. From the raw corn, rye, and wheat going into the mash tank, they explain the entire distillation process through every detail of the aging barrels.

The tour concludes with a tasting of their signature core spirits or you can upgrade to their amazing whiskey offering, immersing yourself in the complex flavors that define Kansas City’s distilling excellence.

After the tour, spend time upstairs trying their signature cocktails in the Monogram Lounge and enjoy some appetizers. One unique feature of this beautifully renovated factory is the option to take the spiral slide back down to the main floor rather than descending the stairs. Yes…we slid!

2. The Crossroads Arts District: Creativity Unleashed

For a dose of cultural vibrancy, head to the Crossroads Arts District. This eclectic neighborhood boasts a collection of galleries, studios, and boutiques. Stroll through the First Friday art walk, where galleries open their doors late, showcasing local artists’ works.

It’s a perfect blend of creativity, urban charm, and an opportunity to explore the pulse of Kansas City’s contemporary art scene.

Before you get hungry, make reservations for a table at La Bodega for some Spanish food served as appetizers (tapas) or get your party into the German restaurant, Grünauer. These places have exceeded our expectations each time we go.
